Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay has proposed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Bangladesh and linking economic zones to boost bilateral trade.

In talks with interim Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the UNGA, Tobgay suggested connecting Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City SEZ with Kurigram SEZ in Bangladesh. “Bangladesh and Bhutan can take bilateral ties to a new level through improved connectivity, trade and investment,” Yunus said.

Tobgay also sought support in fibre optic connectivity, religious tourism, hydropower and pharma investment. He praised Yunus, calling him “My Professor” and saying Bangladesh was in “good hands.” He accepted Yunus’ invitation to visit Dhaka before February’s elections.
