Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh paid homage to the 20 slain hostages at a solemn function in the Army Stadium in Dhaka.
They were killed in a terror attack last Friday in which 2 police officers were also killed.
Attended by top brass of the ruling awami league, army, law enforcement agencies,opposition leaders, bureaucrats, members of the diplomatic corps, journalists, photographers and the public.
Indian High commissioner Harsh Vardhan Sringla is among the envoys.
The pain of the people of Bangladesh in not being able to protect foreigners on their soil as well as their own citizens is visible everywhere.
Among the dead hostages are 9 Italians, 7 Japanese, 1 Indian and 3 Bangladeshis.
The bodies of the foreigners will be handed over to the representatives of their governments, while those of Bangladeshis to their families.
The body of 19-year old Indian, Tarishi Jain is among them. Her body was identified on Sunday by her family and is expected to be flown to New Delhi Monday afternoon.
The Japanese and Italian governments whose nationals count for the majority of the slain hostages had flown in high level officials, counter-terrorism intelligence experts, response teams and victims’ family members by special planes on Saturday and Sunday.
Bangladesh has been on 2 days of national mourning since Sunday.
