Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has appeared in a Guwahati court today in connection with a defamation case. The case was filed by BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma against Mr Gogoi’s reported allegations of corruption on him. Mr Gogoi had reportedly made a statement charging Mr Sarma of indulging in corrupt practices in the Sarada ponzi scheme scam and Louis Berger case.
Today the court has fixed 8 February for the next hearing. Gogoi’s ministerial colleagues and other Congress leaders marched to the from Judges Field in Guwahati to court as a solidarity. Mr. Sarma had filed 100-crore rupees defamation suit in the court of the Kamrup metro civil judge against the Chief Minister.
