The Assam Assembly Speaker Pranab Gogoi has today disqualified nine Congress legislators who joined the BJP recently. Principal Secretary of the assembly P K Das said that the Speaker took this decision under anti-defection laws. The Congress appealed Speaker to disqualify them.
All the nine MLAs appeared before the Speaker on Friday in person in response to show-cause notices served to them on the basis of the Congress complaint. The MLAs are – Pijush Hazarika , Jayanta Malla Baruah , Pallab Lochan Das, Pradan Barua, Rajen Borthakur, Bolin Chetia, Binonda Saikia, Kripanath Mallah and Abu Taher Bepari. They had joined BJP in October and were expelled from the primary membership of Congress for six years last month.
