In a major legal clash between mainstream broadcast media and prominent digital educators, senior journalist Anjana Om Kashyap and the TV Today Network have moved the Delhi High Court, filing a ₹2 crore civil defamation lawsuit against popular online coaching teacher Faisal Khan, widely known as “Khan Sir.”
According to a detailed report by LiveLaw, the legal action stems from highly critical remarks made by Khan Sir in response to Kashyap’s recent on-air coverage targeting “star teachers” of the online education space.
Core Legal Grievances and Contentious Remarks
The lawsuit seeks the immediate removal and takedown of several allegedly abusive and derogatory videos, posts, and broadcasts across social media platforms. The plaintiffs contend that the online educator used deeply damaging labels to tarnish the journalist’s professional integrity.
The suit highlights specific phrases allegedly used by Khan Sir, including:
- “Bikau Patrakar” (Sold-out journalist)
- “Chatukar” (Sycophant)
- “Dalaali” (Brokering/Pimping)
- “Fake News Dukaan” (Fake news shop)
Kashyap’s legal counsel argues that these widespread digital broadcasts have led to unsolicited public scrutiny, targeted harassment, and safety concerns for the journalist and her family.
The Root of the Controversy: The public spat erupted during a live television debate centered on the controversial NEET examination system. During the broadcast, Kashyap reportedly launched a sharp critique against the booming online coaching ecosystem, labeling online instructors as “frauds” and “explainers” who are simply chasing digital views.
Next Steps in Court
The ₹2 crore lawsuit forcefully demands that major social media intermediaries—including YouTube, Meta, and X (formerly Twitter)—be directed to scrub the allegedly defamatory material from their platforms.
The matter is scheduled to be heard by a Delhi High Court vacation bench presided over by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, where the ad-interim injunction requests for content removal will be evaluated.
