Film actor Akshay kumar launched the twin pit toilet technology campaign in New Delhi today. Mr Kumar said, the real challenge in the society is to fight the age old mentality revolving around sanitation and cleanliness. The actor appealed everybody to spread the awareness on the issue and make the cleanliness drive more effective.

He also spoke extensively on the role of cinema in spreading the message of cleanliness. He said, creating a script which is commercial and also, understood by the audience, is tough.

He had to produce the movie ‘Padman’ and act himself because actors used to refuse working on such projects which he said, is still considered a taboo. Mr Kumar said cinema has a huge power to bring change if used in a good way.

At the launch, Secretary and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation were present along with young collectors and officers from across the country to discuss on various aspects and challenges of the cleanliness campaign.
