At least 33 people have been killed and 65 others injured in a suicide blast in the capital, Kabul today.
According to Pajhwok news , the blast happened at around 12:00pm local time in the limits of third Police District near to Kart-i-Sakhi area.
Nasratullah Rahimi, deputy spokesman of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) told Pajhwok Afghan News 29 people have been killed and 52 other wounded. The victims were civilians, he added.
Meanwhile, Police Spokesman Brig. Gen. Mohammad Daud Amin said investigation into the bombing had been launched.
Waheedullah Majroh, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), said 33 people were killed and 65 other wounded in today’s suicide blast, children and women among them.
Faizullah, an eyewitness said the explosive were placed in a motorbike.
He said, “The motorbike rider rammed into the crowd of people who returned from gathering in Kart-i-Sakhi and detonated the explosives.”
Tolo News reported that ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack, which happened close to Kabul University and Ali Abad hospital.
News reports quoted the interior ministry as saying that a suicide bomber had detonated his explosives while walking among a group of people.
The attack happened as many Afghans are marking the Nowruz holiday, a celebration of the start of spring.
Meanwhile, India condemned the attack and termed it as inhumane and barbaric.
External Affairs Ministry said, India stands ready to extend all possible assistance, including for treatment of those injured.
The Ministry said, this is not only an attack on the Afghan people but also an attack on their identity and culture.
