Maoists have unleashed four separate attacks on the security forces in tribal Bastar region in Chhattisgarh during the last thirty-six hours. Four security personnel, including a sub-inspector, were injured in two incidents as the forces were returning to their bases after a search operation. Two Maoists were killed in retaliatory action by the forces.
In Chhattisgarh, state and central para-military forces have jointly launched an anti-Maoist drive code named “Operation Prahar” in the remote areas of tribal Bastar region. More than one thousand five hundred security personnel are engaged in this operation. Maoists had laid ambush at different places in Bijapur to target the security forces returning to their bases after the search and combing operation.
In Bijapur’s Gangaloor area, a sub-inspector was injured in attack while three constables were injured in an improvised explosive device triggered by the Maoists in Tarrem area. Critically injured two jawans were airlifted to the state capital for better treatment.
Meanwhile, the death toll in Saturday’s attack in Todamarka in Sukma district rose to three with a district reserve guard personnel succumbing to his injuries. Security forces have also destroyed a Maoist camp in the forests of Dantewada.
