Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today presented 6945 Crore rupee budget for the current fiscal, amidst protests and walk out by the opposition.
Chief minister who holds the finance portfolio allocated 2500 crore rupees under plan head and set aside 4445 crore rupees for non-plan expenditure.
The Territorial assembly had passsed Vote on Account for government expenses in the first three months of the year in March as its plan size was not ratified by NITI Ayog.
No new taxes have been proposed despite the Union Territory’s poor finances. 16 percent of the outlay goes for debt servicing alone.
Chief Minister also announced a slew of schemes to better the power distribution system in the Union Territory. The budget paper says that the Government would promote organic farming and indigenous breeds of cattle.
The budget document identifies fisheries as the next sunrise sector and has made provisions for its development.
Under the Clean Puducherry initiative, the Government is constructing 10,000 household toilets and plans to declare the Union Territory Open Defecation Free.
