Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday inaugurated and laid foundation stone for various projects of the Kandla Port in Kutch district of Gujarat.
The projects include construction of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Convention Center, 14th and 16th Cargo berths, Railway bridge at Sal junction, Mechanised fertilizer handling facility and purchase of two mobile harbor crane.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, the Prime Minister said that infrastructure, efficiency and transparency are the vital pillars of economic growth.
Mr Modi said, good ports are essential for the progress of India and Kandla has emerged as one of the finest ports in Asia.
He said that after India’s deal with Iran for the development of Chabahar port, the economic activities of Kandla port will expand all over the world in coming days.
The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to take India on a new height by the year 2022. Mr. Modi said, his government’s aim is to provide home to all the poor people of the country during next 5 years.
Mr Modi appealed to the Kandla Port Trust authorities to initiate the process for linking Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s name with Kandla port Trust. He also thanked the people of Kandla for the memorable welcome.
Later in the evening, the Prime Minister inaugurated a pumping station built on Narmada branch canal in Bhachau for the Kutch region.
The pumping station will provide irrigation to around 2 lakh 78 thousand acre farm lands in 7 talukas of the Kutch district. It will also provide drinking water to around 900 villages and 10 towns of the region. It will also help to generate the power through micro power stations.
Addressing the public meeting after the dedication of the pumping station, Mr Modi appealed the people of Kutch to use the water judiciously. He said, Government has spent crores of rupees to take Narmada water to the people of the state, and now it is the responsibility of the people to save and conserve the water for the benefit of the poor people.
Earlier, Mr Modi reached Bhuj this afternoon on a two day visit to Gujarat where he will join various programmes.
