Campaigning for the third phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections ended Friday. 69 constituencies, spread over 12 districts, will go to polls in this phase on Sunday. Over 2 crore voters will decide the fate of 826 candidates, which includes 105 women, in this phase.

AMIT SHAHPolitical leaders made last minute efforts to convince voters to cast vote in their favour. Momentum of campaigning for the fourth phase is also touching its peak. Beside party’s national leaders, candidates themselves are also addressing roadside meetings to reach out maximum number of voters.

Addressing a public meeting at Basti today, BJP president Amit Shah attacked Akhilesh Yadav over poor law and order situation in the state. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi in Rae Bareli said, the BJP led central government has duped youth and farmers of the state. While addressing a public meeting at Fatehpur, BSP supremo Mayawati atatcked SP government over the development issue. Three districts Etawah, Mainpuri and Kannauj in this phase are called strong holds of Samajwadi Party. During the assembly election of 2012 SP won all 12 seats in these three district and 55 seats out of 69 in this phase.

Election Commission has barred political parties and candidates in Uttar Pradesh assembly polls from publishing advertisement in newspapers tomorrow and on polling day without its prior approval in view of third phase of elections.

Meanwhile, scrutiny of nominations took place today for the final phase of Assembly elections in Manipur. 22 of the 60 Assembly segments will go to polls in the second phase on the 8th of next month. Monday is the last day for the withdrawal of nominations.
