Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu has said that Government is soon coming up with a new print media policy. Inaugurating the two day All India Public Communicators Workshop in Bengaluru today, the Minister said that the new print media policy which envisages a points system as per which newspapers with certain percentage of marks will get the Government Advertisements.

newspapers-in-indiaNow-a-days social media is a powerful tool of communication the minister said. He said that a public communicator needs to be correct, credible, competent and creative. Credibility is important for every journalist, he said.

Public Communication is a catalyst for socio – economic change, the minister said. He urged the journalist to provide headlines to the development works and to sideline the detrimental news.

The Minister said that in the last 11 years from 2004-05 to 2014-15, Central Government spent more than 6000 crore rupees on advertising it’s schemes, polices etc. The bulk of this amount is spent on print advertising. Of the total amount Rs 3295 crore was spent on print media, Rs.2290 crore on audio video while the rest of Rs.448 crore on printed and out door publicity, the minister said.
