Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an emotional speech, today said, he was voted to power by people to fight corruption. Reiterating the government’s move to demonetise 500 and 1,000 rupee notes as a major step to fight black money and corruption, Mr Modi said, he is ready to face punishment if he makes any mistake.
The Prime Minister was addressing a gathering in Bambolim near Panaji in Goa after laying the foundation stone for Mopa Greenfield international airport and Tuem electronic manufacturing cluster.
Saying that he has more projects in mind to make India corruption-free, Mr Modi sought people’s co-operation for 50 days to ensure that. He said, the step of demonetisation was taken to help the honest citizen of India defeat the menace of black money which was ignored by previous government.
Terming the move a secret operation, the Prime Minister said, it was 10 months of work involving printing new notes.
Mr Modi said, if any money that was looted in India and has left its shores, it is the government’s duty to find out about it. He said, rules have to be same for everyone.
The Prime Minister said, his government is fufilling its promise to the people to fight graft and action will be taken against benami property.
On the Mopa Greenfield international airport, Mr Modi said, with the new airport the impetus to tourism will be immense. He said, a digitally trained, modern and youth driven Goa is being shaped today.
The Prime Minister said, this has the power to transform the country. He lauded Defense Minister and former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for ushering in a political culture in Goa took the state to new heights of progress.
Our correspondent reports that the first phase of the airport is expected to be commissioned in the financial year 2019-20. The Airport will have the capacity to handle 28 million passengers annually while its runway will be capable to land A 380 Jumbo Jet.
The Tuem electronic city is expected to generate 50,000 jobs for the youth in the state.Goa Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, the electronic cluster will be fully operational in next five years. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Phase 3 A of Goa Shipyard Limited.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought 70 months to cleanse the 70 years old disease of black money.
Speaking at the Valedictory of Centenary celebration of KLE society in Belagavi today, the Prime Minister said punitive measures against dishonest will continue even after December 30th, the deadline set for exchange of demonetized notes.
In a hard hitting statement, he said, dishonest people have looted the country for 70 long years and it is time they pay back. He said demonetization has pained common man for now, but they will gain from it in the long run.
He called upon educational institutions in the country to train youths, who could win gold for the country in the next Olympics and encourage innovators working for the welfare of the mankind.
Saying that it is a shame that Indian Universities do not figure among top 100 globally, he said Government will extend all financial help to 10 Government and 10 private Universities to uplift their standards to be part of top 100 globally.
Mr Modi will also address another event in Pune, Maharashtra where he will inaugurate International Conference and Exhibition on Sugarcane Value Chain – Vision 2025 at Manjari.
