Sri Lanka’s courts have ordered the release of 73 fishermen from Tamil Nadu, arrested in recent months for violating the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). The fishermen are among 77 fishermen detained in Sri Lanka.

The remaining four are likely to be released tomorrow and their repatriation will take later this week. The formalities to set free the fishermen from prisons will be completed in a couple of days.

The release came following interventions by the Indian High Commission in Colombo. These fishermen were taken into custody along with their 102 fishing boats. However, Sri Lanka has not been releasing the boats despite the release of the fishermen.
