Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a judgment settling that reservation contained in Persons with Disabilities Act entitles the disabled persons the benefit of reservation in promotion in Group A and B posts as well.
The Apex Court also struck down the DoPT office order which denied them reservation in promotion in these categories in accordance with policy of three percent reservation for disabled persons.
Talking to media in New Delhi, senior lawyer and National Federation of Blind, General Secretary S K Rungta termed the verdict historic and urged the government to incorporate this direction in the bill pending before the Rajya Sabha providing for reservation to persons with disabilities in jobs irrespective of mode of recruitment.
