The Union home ministry has cancelled the license of activist Teesta Setalvad’s Sabrang Trust under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010.
In a scathing order, the ministry has charged Teesta Setalvad and her husband Javed Anand to have used the funds from foreign funding for personal expenses, including dining in the hotels, food takeaways to purely personal items such as earbuds , wet wipes etc.
The ministry has termed it as a violation of Section 8(1) (A) OF FCRA, 2010.
Sabrang Trust paid credit card bills of Teesta and husband Javed Anand, the statement further added.
The cancellation of FCRA license will block all foreign funding to the NGO, charged with diverting foreign contributions including those received from Ford Foundation to non-FCRA registered entities, besides violating several other FCRA provisions.
