Widespread protest were seen in Kerala over the brutal rape and murder of a Dalit law student. The incident occurred on April 28 at her residence near Perumbavoor in Ernakulam District.

The activists of opposition youth wing blocked the entry of State Home Minister who proceeded to meet the mother of the student.

Chief Minister Oommen Channdy and Leader of Opposition VS Achuthanandan visited Perumbavoor this morning and met the victim’s mother, who is under treatment at a hospital.

The Chief Minister was received with black flags by protesters. The police have nabbed three suspects for questioning. Investigations are going on.

Jisha, 27, was found murdered on April 28 at her home near a canal here by her labourer mother. Her body was found badly mutilated. There were injuries on her private parts, according to police.
“We are unable to give details of what we are doing and what’s happening on the probe, but can say that it’s going on the right track,” Additional Director General of Police K. Padmakumar told media.
The crime is being compared with the rape-cum-murder of Nirbhaya in the national capital that shook the country in December 2012.
On Wednesday morning, Leader of opposition V.S. Achuthanandan reached the hospital where Jisha’s mother is undergoing treatment.
“All this will happen in a state when the Oommen Chandy government is going on. It is going to be a week now and no one has been arrested,” he said.
The first to arrive here in the morning was the chief minister. But he was greeted with the Left opposition student and youth activists’ sloganeering against his government.
The Youth Congress activists were also present in equal numbers, giving the chief minister a close company.
Chandy assured Jisha’s mother that the killer would be arrested and promised a state government job to Jisha’s sister. “Police are doing their job and very soon the accused would be booked.”
