Two militants were killed in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Shopian area. The operation ended after sanitization operation was undertaken by the security forces.

An Army spokesman said that two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in the ongoing operation in the Vehil area of Shopian district.

The area is around 55 Kms in south of Srinagar headquarters. The slain militants have been identified as Naseer Ahmad Pandit and Waseem Ahmad Malla . Both militants were active in south Kashmir and part of top Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani’s group.

Two rifles and ammunition was also recovered from the encounter site. Naseer Pandit was Personal Security Officer with former State Public Works Minister Altaf Bukhari and ran away with his rifle and joined Hizb.
