Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that, the reported statement of leader of opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad equating RSS with the Islamic terror group ISIS could have been an ‘inadvertent slip’, which he should have avoided.
Reacting to a clarification given by Azad in the House, Jaitley said, the Congress leader should have scrupulously avoided giving any kind of respectability to such a terror group, which creates mayhem across several countries. Raising the issue in the House, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi demanded an apology from Congress and Azad for his reported statement.
Earlier giving a personal clarification, Azad read a transcript of his speech at an event. He also tabled the transcript and a video of his speech and claimed, there was no comparison of RSS with ISIS. Azad alleged, some media organisations have twisted his statement on a selective basis.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu asked Congress to apologise for the alleged remarks of its leader Ghulam Nabi Azad comparing RSS with ISIS. Mr Naidu told reporters outside Parliament that such remarks were not accepted. On the other hand, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said Mr Azad talked only about the visions of RSS and ISIS and not compared the two.
