In Maharashtra, Shiv Sena registered a comfortable success in the 122 member Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) polls today winning 52 seats, 21 seats more than of earlier tally of 31 seats in the local body. The Bharatiya Janata Party took a bigger leap from the earlier 9 seats to winning 42 seats today, thus emerging at the second largest party.

Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) was reduced to 9 seats from the earlier 27 seats in KDMC while the Congress-NCP combine won on 6 seats.

The surprise package was Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM which managed to open its account in the local body polls by winning one seat while others including independent got total 9 seats. Out of the 122 wards, elections were held to 120 wards only, as no candidature was filed for two wards. Besides this, candidates to 3 wards had won unopposed.

As per the Maharashtra Election Commission data, about 47 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise in the elections to the Kalyan-Dombivali twin cities held on Sunday.

In Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections, BJP emerged the single largest party with 32 seats in the 81 member civic body while the Shiv Sena won just 4 seats. The Congress won in 27 wards, NCP in 15 and others in 3 wards. The Congress and NCP might come together to lead the local body.

Besides, in results of elections to 67 other local bodies comprising of Nagar Parishads and Nagar panchayats spread across 21 districts too were declared today. In Ratnagiri out of 4 seats, Shiv Sena and NCP won 1 seat each. In Mandangad nagar panchayat, Congress, NCP and RPI alliance won unopposed. They won 16 of 17 seats where elections took place yesterday.

In Sindhudurg, no single party has clear mandate, where Congress won 7, BJP won 4 and Shiv Sena won 2. Here Sena-BJP contested the election jointly. Similar trend was observed at Gondia Nagar Panchayat, where no single party swept the mandate. In Kolhapur, the Congress is leading in 25 wards where as the NCP is ahead in 15, BJP in 10, Tararani in 17, Sena in 3 and others in 3 as the counting of votes is underway to elect the new body of Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC).
