A Special Court in Panaji today granted a conditional bail to the former PWD Minister of Goa Churchill Alemao and Former Director of the Water and Sewerage project Anand Wachasunder in connection with the Louis Berger bribery scam case.

Both have been granted bail while seeking personal bond of Rs 5 Lakh each. They have also been told to deposit their passport. This was the 4th attempt by Alemao to seek bail, after he was arrested by the crime branch on August 5th this year.

The bail application of Anand Wachasunder was also rejected twice by the Special Court on July 27th. Goa police have filed a charge sheet last month naming Churchil Alemao, Anand Wachasunde and Former Chief Minister Digamber Kamat. Mr. Kamat, however is still out on anticipatory bail, which has been challenged by Goa police in the High Court of Bombay at Goa.

The bribery scam came into light after the US department of Justice revealed that money was paid to some minister and officials to bag consultancy deals for Japanese International cooperation Agency (JICA) water and sewerage project in Goa in 2010.
