Protesting farmers of Punjab have called off their week long rail blockade agitation today. Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Jagmohan Singh said the blockade has been lifted at 2 PM. He said the decision has been taken considering the difficulties faced by people due to the rail blockade.

The agitating farmers will decide their next move after a meeting of their leaders today. Monday, the talks between agitating farmers and Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal had remained inconclusive.

The farmers are blocking train tracks at 13 spots across the state. Agitating farmers were demanding compensation of 40 thousand rupees per acre for loss of cotton crop due to white fly pest attack and 4500 rupees per quintal minimum support price for 1509 variety of paddies. They are also demanding 5000 rupees price for 1121 variety, waver of debts and relief to the farm labourers.
