The Centre today rubbished in the Supreme Court allegation that sacked Special Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian was asked to go soft on the accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), told the court that there is no truth in it.

Rohatgi sought a week’s time to file a counter affidavit on behalf of the government and the agency on the PIL which has alleged that Government was exerting pressure on Rohini Salian.

Earlier on September 11, the apex court had sought a response from the Centre and the agency on the PIL filed by a social activist.
