Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed confidence that Millennium Development Goal on low infant mortality will be achieved. inaugurating the the global summit ‘Call to Action’ on prevention of maternal and child deaths, Prime minister said that has said 184 poorest performing districts on health outcomes have been identified and special efforts are being made to put more resources in these areas.
The aim of the Summit is to build a global campaign to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates and to share constructive experiences of each other in this field.
PM Modi said the event will help in abolishment of child and mother deaths during the birth in the next 15 years.
He asserted that if the current trend of annual decline in under five mortality rate is sustained, India is likely to reach close to achieving the MDG target.
Modi also said that the government aims to provide universal health care and financial protection to all the marginalized communities.
He said his government will ensure that every woman and every child who can be saved will be saved.
Mr Modi said, it will be ensured that no child in India dies of vaccine preventable maternal deaths.
He said, if the current trend of annual decline in under five mortality rate is sustained, India is likely to reach close to achieving the Millennium Development Goals target.
Prime Minister said, the country has achieved a milestone by eliminating maternal and neonatal Tetanus.
He said historic accomplishment has been achieved by India on March 27th last year as there is not a single polio patient in the country.
Saying clean and hygienic environ is the stepping stone to a healthy nation, Mr Modi said the government has launched Janani Suraksha Yojana where incentives were given for delivering in public institutions to beneficiaries directly.
The Prime minister said, India has always partnered with the global efforts on issues of child and maternal health.
He said the government has added to the world’s largest immunization drive known as Mission Indradhanush which focusses on vaccination and immunisation.
Mr Modi urged all the participating countries to join together in their commitment to end preventable maternal and child death.
PM Modi called upon all the participants’ countries to send a very strong message to the entire world to save every woman and child.
PM said that country’s a truly historic accomplishment has been the victory over polio and added that another major milestone achieved by India has been eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus.
Health ministers of two dozen countries of the world and experts are taking part in the two-day Summit. This is the first time that India is hosting this Summit.
The two day summit will see over 600 delegates from across the world to discuss over new possible initiatives to reduce the maternal and child mortality rate among the countries that have been witnessing highest deaths due to the issue.
As per the World Health Organisation, there are 24 countries in the world that comprises of 36 percent of the global population and accounts for 70 percent of the child.
He expressed hope the two days summit will provide a new direction to the global community in its journey towards ending maternal and child deaths.
Speaking on the occasion, Health minister J P Nadda said government is accelerating all efforts to prevent malaria and HIV among children.
Mr Nadda said the government is committed for setting bold targets and achieving them in area of maternal and child health care.
He said all should work extra mile to reach the unreachable and have equity focus. He said a lot of progress has been achieved on preventable health care front but challenges still lie ahead.
The Health Minister said the country will achieve a lot in reducing infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate at a faster pace than the global ones
