The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI, has sent documents to Interpol for a Red Corner Notice against former IPL chief Lalit Modi. Modi is accused of financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League. The agency has processed the papers and forwarded the same to Interpol on the request of the Enforcement Directorate.

Red Corner Notice will enable India to seek Lalit Modi’s extradition from London. Earlier, a Light Blue Corner notice was issued against him which was effective for domestic airports only. Recently, a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against him by a Mumbai court over his alleged involvement in financial irregularities in the IPL.

The Lalit Modi episode had almost paralysed the functioning of Parliament in the just concluded Monsoon session which had turned out to be a wash out. The opposition had launched a campaign against the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje for their alleged help to Lalit Modi. He left the country in 2010 amid allegations of tax evasion, money-laundering and proxy ownership of IPL.
