Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday said that the Islamic heritage of India and Central Asia was defined by the highest ideas of Islam, the knowledge, pity, compassion and welfare. He said it was a heritage founded on principle of love and devotion and it has always rejected the force of extremism. Modi said this is an important source of strength that brings India and central Asia together.
Modi was addressing the students of the Nazarbayev University in Astana. He said that investment in education, human resources and infrastructure has helped the growth and size of Kazakhstan economy.
Mr. Modi described India as the new frontier of opportunities for the world,adding that India is prepared to invest more not just in minerals and energy but in pharmaceuticals, refineries, petrochemicals, fertilizer plants, textile, engineering and small and medium enterprises.
Describing the cyber space has become a platform without borders for terror to draw recruits to its cause, Mr. Modi said in this troubled world, every nation must strengthen her defence for region’s peace.
Recalling former Prime Minister Vajpayee’s initiative for a New Silk Route in 2002, Mr. Modi said that in an age of globalization, Asia cannot remain fragmented and Central Asia cannot remain distant and disconnected from India.
Kazak Prime Minister Karim Massimov who welcomed Mr. Modi at the Astana airport today appreciated Indian Prime Minister’s vision and contribution towards welfare of his nation and whole Central Asia. Earlier today Mr. Modi had his first official meeting with Kazak Prime Minister Massimov on issues concerning mutual national interest. Mr. Modi also attended a wreath laying ceremony and planting of sapling at the Monument of Defenders of Motherland at Tauelsizdek Street in Astana immediately after his arrival in Kazakhstan.
Mr. Modi will meet Kazak President Nazarbayev tomorrow. Both the leaders are likely to discuss on issues concerning common interest including energy cooperation. There will be delegation level talks after that.
