India’s acting high commissioner to Bangladesh, Pawankumar Badhe, on Thursday (October 15) highlighted the countries’ deep-rooted cultural ties, saying music and artistic exchanges play an important role in strengthening people-to-people relations.
Badhe was speaking at “A Musical Evening with Legends”, organised by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC).
The event celebrated the musical legacy of three iconic Indian singers, Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey, whose songs remain popular across generations in both countries.
Bangladeshi singers Samarjit Roy and Anupama Mukti performed several classics associated with the three legends.
Roy, trained in Indian classical music, presented songs originally sung by Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey, while Mukti, a playback singer known for her contributions to Bangladeshi cinema, performed popular Lata Mangeshkar numbers. The two artists also performed a duet.
Badhe emphasised that shared musical traditions and cultural exchanges help strengthen mutual understanding and longstanding friendship between India and Bangladesh.
Senior artists, representatives of Bangladeshi cultural organisations and music enthusiasts attended the programme at the Indian High Commission premises.
