President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Chief Justices of three High Courts as Judges of the Supreme Court of India. In a social media post, Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal informed that the President appointed Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court, Justice Sunita Agarwal, Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh as Judges of the Supreme Court.

The President has also appointed Gurvinder Pal Singh, Judicial Officer as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court.

On September 28, the SC Collegium — the body responsible for appointment and transfer of judges — had recommended these three names to be appointed as judges of the top court.

The SC Collegium, headed by the Chief Justice Surya Kant and other senior judges, and also comprising Justices Vikram Nath, J K Maheshwari, B V Nagarathna and Augustine George Masih had taken the decision and recommended their elevation to the top court after due deliberation.
