The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecast heavy rainfall in eight districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, while Chennai is expected to see cloudy skies with light to moderate showers.
An atmospheric circulation stretching from the central-east Bay of Bengal to the southeast Arabian Sea, passing through the southwest Bay of Bengal, the southern Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Kanyakumari sea regions, is influencing weather conditions across the state.
Under its impact, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in the hilly regions of Coimbatore and Tiruppur, as well as in Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Theni, Dindigul and Kanyakumari. Authorities have cautioned residents in vulnerable and hilly regions to remain alert as intense showers could disrupt transport and daily routines.
Moderate rainfall is expected at one or two places across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from Wednesday till May 29, as the prevailing circulation continues to affect weather patterns.
For Chennai and nearby areas, the forecast indicates generally cloudy skies over the next 24 hours, with moderate rain and brief showers in parts of the city. Despite rainfall, hot and humid conditions are likely to persist, making daytime weather uncomfortable.
Meteorologists note that while rainfall may bring relief in some districts, humidity will continue to dominate in urban centres like Chennai. Authorities are monitoring developments closely and may issue further advisories depending on the situation.
