In response to Prime Minister Modi’s national call for resource conservation, the Delhi Government is set to launch the “Mera Bharat Mera Yogdan” (My India, My Contribution) campaign starting tomorrow.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the initiative during a press briefing at the Delhi Secretariat, framing it as a dual effort to promote sustainability and streamline administrative efficiency.

Key Initiatives of the Campaign

The campaign introduces several structural changes to how the city functions, focusing on reducing the government’s carbon footprint and operational costs:

  • Hybrid Work Model: All Delhi Government offices—excluding essential services like healthcare, police, and emergency response—will transition to a work-from-home (WFH) model two days a week.
  • Private Sector Advisory: The Chief Minister confirmed that a formal advisory will be issued to private corporations and tech hubs, encouraging them to adopt a similar two-day WFH policy where feasible to help decongest the city.
  • “Metro Monday”: Every Monday will be designated as Metro Day. In a move to lead by example, all Ministers, senior bureaucrats, and government staff are expected to use the Delhi Metro for their daily commute, significantly reducing the use of official fuel-powered convoys.

Expected Impact

By shifting to a remote model for part of the week, the government aims to see a sharp decline in electricity consumption within public buildings and a reduction in vehicular emissions.

“This isn’t just about cutting costs,” CM Rekha Gupta stated. “It’s about a collective shift in mindset. When leaders trade their SUVs for Metro tokens, it sends a powerful message about our shared responsibility toward the environment and the economy.”

Implementation Note: Essential services, including hospitals, fire departments, and water supply units, will continue to operate on-site at full capacity to ensure no disruption to public welfare.
