Iran has fired back a wave of missiles at Israel AND US bases in middle east in retaliation to its attack, the IRNA state news agency reported Saturday.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have described the move as a “response to the aggression of the hostile and criminal enemy,” IRNA reported.

Explosions rocked northern Israel as the country worked to intercept incoming Iranian missiles shortly after it launched the attack on Iran. The blasts echoed just after the Israeli military said it would be using its air defence systems to bring down the Iranian fire. There was no immediate word on any damage or casualties from the ongoing attack.

Shelter alerts were also heard in Qatar, whose Defence Ministry said an Iranian missile had been intercepted by the Patriot defence system. “It certainly is tense,” said Al Jazeera’s Zein Basravi, reporting from Doha. “We just heard alerts going off, warning of the threat of incoming missiles.”

Bahrain confirmed that the headquarters of the US Navy’s 5th Fleet in Manama was targeted in a missile attack. Qatar’s Defence Ministry said missiles targeting the country were intercepted by the Patriot defence system. A loud explosion was reported in Abu Dhabi. Qatar, Kuwait and the UAE have closed their airspace. Earlier, Iran’s IRGC confirmed that it had launched missiles and drones towards Israel following the US-Israeli attacks.

Explosions were also heard in northern Israel as the country is trying to intercept incoming Iranian missiles. Israel has issued a nationwide warning after Iran reportedly launched missiles. The strikes came amid heightened strain between the United States and Iran over a potential nuclear agreement and growing fears of a wider military confrontation in West Asia.

Sirens sounded across Israel at the same time. The Israeli military said the alert measures were aimed at ensuring civilian safety in the event of retaliatory missile fire from Iran or its regional allies. The developments come at a sensitive diplomatic moment.

Earlier on Saturday, Israel and the United States launched a massive coordinated attack on Iran.

A short while later, the Israeli military said that Iran had begun to launch missiles at Israel, only to report a second wave soon afterwards.

“An additional barrage of missiles was launched toward Israel,” the Israeli military posted on X, adding that it was identifying and intercepting threats.

The U.S.-Israeli attack marks a major escalation in a long-running dispute over Iran’s controversial nuclear programme, and follow a deadly Iranian crackdown on domestic protests earlier in the year.

While Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz spoke on Saturday of a pre-emptive strike, U.S. President Donald Trump said the country’s military has launched “major combat operations” to eliminate “threats by the Iranian regime.”

Iran can “never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said in a video address
