Selection panel headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reported to have given its nod for appointment of Senior most Information Commissioner Vijai Sharma as new Chief Information Commissioner, CIC and Mr. K V Chaudhary as Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC).
The names of new CVC and was finalized earlier today by the selection panels headed by Prime Minister held a meeting in New Delhi where the members reached at a consensus on the names. Sources said that consensus formed in the meeting and names have been sent to President Pranab Mukherjee for approval and the final list will be announced by the President.
The CIC has been working without a chief for over nine months, after the tenure of CIC Rajiv Mathur ended in August last year. Three posts of information commissioners in the CIC are also vacant. In CVC, the term of Central Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar had ended on September 28th last year, while vigilance commissioner J M Garg completed his tenure on September 7th.
Vijai Sharma Joined the I.A.S in 1974 in Uttar Pradesh cadre. He has experience in Administration & Governance and Law & Policy in Central and State Governments, and United Nations. He was member (Expert), National Green Tribunal, Principal Bench, New Delhi; and secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Environment & Forests.
