On the Sutlej Yamuna Link Canal issue, a meeting was held today at Chandigarh between the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana following directions from the Supreme Court. Besides Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the meeting was attended by Haryana Irrigation Minister Shruti Chaudhary, Punjab Irrigation Minister Varinder Goyal, and other officials.
In a joint press conference after the meeting, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that meaningful results are achieved when discussions take place in a positive environment. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that this is an old and pending issue. Mr Bhagwant Mann added that water is becoming a global issue. He said that measures for water conservation will also need to be implemented in the future.
