The All India Institute of Medical Sciences has called for greater public awareness on the medical condition – Congenital Differences in Sex Development (DSD), urging parents not to panic. DSD is a group of rare conditions involving genes, hormones and reproductive organs that result in a person’s sexual development being different to most other people’s.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Director of AIIMS New Delhi, Dr M Srinivas, today raised concern that many children struggling with this disorder are often stigmatised, with some parents struggling to deal with this due to lack of information and awareness.
He advised the parents not to panic and assured them that timely medical guidance and counselling can help manage such conditions appropriately. He noted that coordinated teamwork by doctors at AIIMS is addressing this medical condition.
Dr. Srinivas reassured parents that with timely medical intervention, proper guidance, and counselling, these conditions can be managed effectively. He added that a coordinated, multidisciplinary team of specialists at AIIMS is actively working together to provide comprehensive care for children affected by DSD.
