Security have been put on high alert in Assam as preventive steps following killing of 8 jawans by militants in Nagaland. Official sources in Guwahati said that police patrolling is on at vulnerable areas bordering Nagaland to thwart any nefarious design of militants.
Security forces have already been put on alert in Assam -Nagaland border in Jorhat district over the issue of construction of illegal houses allegedly by Naga people. Though Nagaland police removed illegal construction at the Tiru hills reserve forest, a strict vigil is being maintained at border areas. In another incident, security forces arrested 3 militants of Muslim Tigers Protection Force in Kokrajhar district.
Yesterday at least eight Jawans of Assam Rifles and Territorial Army were killed and another nine WERE injured in an ambush by militants in Nagaland yesterday. Defence PRO Sunit Newton in Guwahati said that the incident occurred at Mon district when militants targeted security personnel. Among deceased,seven were from Assam Rifles and one from the Territorial Army.
