newsCongress party today said that the passage of the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill in its present form in the Rajya Sabha was not possible. Talking to media persons in Bhopal, former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh said that the opposition of Congress over amendments in the Land Aquisition Act 2013 is based on principles.

He also accused that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not telling truth about the law brought by the UPA government. Mr. Ramesh said that the clause about handing over of the acquired land to the owner if land was not used within five years has also been removed. He accused that the provision of acquiring one-km stretch of land on either side of the major road is being done with an intention to help private companies.

He said his party was also opposing removal of the provision for providing four times compensation from back date to those land owners who were not satisfied with the award they got at the time of acquisition.

Mr. Ramesh said that Congress, BSP, SP JDU, TMC and NCP are opposing amendments in the land acquisition law. Shiv Sena and Shiromani Akali Dal have also raised their doubts. Mr. Ramesh said that Congress will make no compromise on the issue and it is committed to implementation of the law of 2013.
