The Indian Embassy in Qatar has issued an advisory for its citizens. It warned against bringing banned items like drugs while traveling to Qatar. The Indian Embassy said in a social media post, ‘The Indian Embassy is constantly receiving information that Indians are bringing unwanted parcels while traveling from India to Qatar, which later turns out to be banned items. This also includes substances like drugs.
The advisory said that such cases will be prosecuted by the local authorities as per Qatari law, which provides for severe penalties. The embassy has urged Indian nationals not to carry unsolicited parcels and inform their relatives, employees and acquaintances about the same.
Over the past few years, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) has repeatedly urged travellers to exercise caution while carrying medicines into the country. It also said that procedures and restrictions should be strictly followed. Arriving or departing passengers are not allowed to carry medicines without a detailed and certified medical report from the hospital where they underwent treatment.
