Benchmark equity indices extended gains for the second straight session today amid a rally in Asian and European markets, decline in Brent crude oil prices and buying by foreign investors.
Extending its previous session’s rebound, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 560 points or 0.77 percent to settle at 73,649. The NSE Nifty went up by 189 points or 0.86 percent to close at 22,336.
From the Sensex basket, Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank and State Bank of India were the major gainers. In contrast, NTPC, JSW Steel and HDFC Bank were the laggards.
In the broader market at the BSE, Midcap sector jumped 0.93 percent, while Smallcap sector gained by 1.26 percent.
In sectoral indices at the BSE, Consumer Durables sector rose 2.53 percent, Industrials index jumped 1.93 percent.
