NEW DELHI: India’s prime investigating body, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is all set to grill Hindu religious leader and Abhinav Bharat member Swami Asimanand for his alleged role in the 2007 Samjhauta Express blast case.
According to official sources NIA would question Swami about his association with other people arrested in the case and his whereabouts before the train blast took place.
CBI has arrested him on November 19 from Haridwar for his alleged involvement in the Makka Masjid blast in Hyderabad and several other places.
According to CBI, his name had cropped up along with that of other accused Sandeep Darge and Ram Chadra Kalsangra alias Ramjee.
Sixty-eight people were killed in the ensuing fire and dozens more were injured. Most of Pakistani civilians were killed but the victims included some Indian civilians and Indian military personnel guarding the train.
On February 18, 2007 bombs were set off in two bogies of Samjhauta Express, a twice-weekly train service connecting Delhi, and Lahore in Pakistan just after the train passed Diwana station near of Panipat, 80 kilometres from New Delhi.
