NEW DELHI (AMN): The Supreme Court On Tuesday questioned Chief Vigilance Commissioner P J Thomas’s moral right to supervise CBI’s probe into the 2G spectrum scam. A bench comprising Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly said that CBI was functioning under the CVC, who was Telecom Secretary when 2G spectrum was allocated.
The apex court said it would be difficult for Mr Thomas to objectively monitor as he had justified the action which was being subjected to scrutiny by the court and CBI now.
60-year-old Thomas, who was Telecom Secretary till recently, was appointed to the CVC’s post by a three-member panel headed by Prime Minister but not before the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, gave a dissenting note.
