PATNA: (AMN) Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polls during the fourth phase of Assembly elections in Bihar on Monday. 42 Assembly constituencies and Banka Parliamentary seat would go to poll on this phase. Out of these, 14 constituencies come under the naxal affected areas.

Special security arrangements have been made in comparison following threat from naxal outfits. More security forces have been deployed. Jawans of STF on four helicopters will make aerial surveillance in the affected areas. Mounted forces have also been deployed. There will be an intensive river patrolling in the river Ganga on motorboats.

By-election to Banka parliamentary constituency was necessitated following the death of sitting MP Digvijay Singh on the 24th of June this year.

Polling in naxal affected areas is a challenge for the administration. On the other hand ruling NDA and opposition parties are equally anxious for their prospect. In last assembly elections NDA wrested 29 out of 42 seats. RJD got eight. LJP and CPI got two each. One seat went to congress. Ruling NDA is trying their best to retain all seats. Opposition parties have mustered their strength to increase their tally.

In Bhagalpur a total of 107 candidates are in fray from seven constituencies. In Munger a total of 51 candidates are trying their political luck for 3 seats while in Lakhisarai a total of 30 candidates are in fray for 2 seats.
