JANGIPUR (WEST BENGAL): Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday today asked states to revamp the public distribution system in order to protect the poor from inflation. Talking to media persons here he said the government programme for providing subsidised rice and wheat to 6.5 crore people below poverty line or BPL families could implanted only if the public distribution system was revamped. The Finance Minister said, the inflation have started coming down and all three consumer price indices and wholesale price-based inflation are in single digits for the first time in sixteen months.
