ANDALIB AKHTER

A few days before the sensational charge sheet, when a group of Muslim leaders, some of them associated with  influential All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) were interacting with infamous RSS leader Indresh kumar at India Islamic Culture Centre in the national capital, not only common Muslims but the secular populace of India were stunned.

Murmur is still going on as what led these Muslim leaders to ‘cooperate’ with leader like Indresh. Though the Rajasthan Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) charge sheet had not come on the day the interaction took palace, yet the activities of Indresh were well known to the countrymen.

Indresh kumar’s name is doing round for last 2-3 year for the wrong reason. Every secular citizen of the country are aware of his activities, but the Muslim leaders who interacted or those planning to interact with Indresh pretended to be unaware of his actions.

Before the ATS charge sheet, newspapers and TV channels were full of the stories as how Indresh  work for so called ‘national unity and Hindu-Muslim brotherhood’.

Indresh name cropped first when Malegaon blasts prime accused Colonel Shrikant Purohit mentioned him during interrogation.

Indresh has been in the thick of the action at all times. He played an active role in the Amarnath stir and also the Jammu issue. He spent years coordinating activities of the Sangh Parivar in the region.

Besides this he also coordinated the activities of the Rashtriya Muslim Manch, an affiliate of the RSS, which terms itself as a nationalistic organization of the Muslims. In the RSS circles, Indresh is one of its most dynamic leaders.

Lately two national news channels Headline Today and the AAj tak have carried the nefarious stories of Indresh and his ilk.  After the exposure the RSS activists attacked the office of the channel and ransacked it.

Headlines Today has accessed material – in the form of video tapes and witness accounts available with investigators – that puts elements within the Sangh Parivar including Indresh under the scanner. The TV investigation found that RSS leader Indresh Kumar shared close links with Sunil Joshi, who had planted bombs in 2007 at the Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad and the Ajmer Sharif Dargah.  As per a written statement of the witness recorded by the Rajasthan ATS and CBI, Indresh was aware of the terror plot and even approved of it.

The blast at Mecca Masjid killed 17 people while two people died in the explosion at Ajmer Sharif. The Mecca Masjid blast is being probed by the CBI while the Ajmer Sharif probe is with the Rajasthan Police. In May this year, the Rajasthan ATS arrested two RSS pracharaks on terror charges.

The latest chargsheet by the ATS, in Ajmer court has reinforced the media reports. The ATS report says that Indresh played the pivotal role in coordinating the blasts at Ajmer dargah and Mecca mosque in Hyderabad.

The conspiracy was hatched at Gujarati Samaj Guest house in Jaipur on 31 October, 2005. RSS leader Indresh Kumar was also present in meeting which was called to take revenge of alleged attacks on Hindus. In this meeting Indresh Kumar advised them to work jointly so that no one could doubt them. After hatching the conspiracy in the meeting Joshi distributed works related to plots.

The meeting was held at room no 26 of the guest house and attended by several top anti Muslim activists.  Beside Indresh, the secret meeting was attended among others by Asimanand of Abhinav Bharat, Sadhvi Pragya Singh of Jai Vande Mataram, Sunil Joshi, Sandeep Dange, Ramchandra Kalsangra alias Ramji, Shivam Dhakad, Lokesh Sharma and Devendra Gupta.

Indresh, however, denies the charges stating that ATS and CBI are functioning under pressure of Congress government. But do we expect Indresh to admit what he did in Jaipur guest house?

After every blasts Muslim youths were rounded up and blamed for explosion. They were arrested, tortured and sullied in Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and other places. After every blast it was also propagated that these blasts were part of sectarian difference within Muslims. But the way CBI, Karkare, the ATS have revealed the things picture have become clear.

Yet a section within the Muslim community seems to be ignorant of what had happened to the community in the days of blasts. They are yet to identify the forces that killed innocent people, create ill will among communities and weaken the national unity.

The section of the Muslim leadership who intracted with Indresh have said that there is need to keep the door for dialogue ajar. Are these people keeping their door ajar for people like Indresh?

It is high time for community to distinguish good and bad. Dialogue must go on but not with those whole plant bomb or help the conspirators. There is no dearth of high-quality Hindu religious and social leaders in the country with whom meaningful dialogue could go on.

The AIMPLB should also tame those who go beyond their limits. If they continue to hold talks with such people, the community and secular populace would treat
them as ‘partners of conspirators’.
