Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that farmers affected by unseasonal rains and hailstorms will be given compensation within a week.

Speaking to reporters, after reviewing the damage across farmlands in Ahmednagar district yesterday, Mr. Shinde said the assessment reports or panchnama will be conducted at the earliest and no farmer will remain bereft of compensation due.

Mr. Shinde said his government has taken a historic decision and declared that compensation will be given for a natural calamity caused by up to 10 millimeters of rain falling continuously for five days.

The Chief Minister also directed concerned authorities to provide temporary accommodation to families who have lost their homes, till they get a permanent house.
