The longest river cruise of the world ‘Ganga Vilas’ is currently passing through the waters of Bangladesh. After entering into Bangladesh on 3rd of this month, 25 days after it was flagged off on January 13 from Varanasi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It was given a grand welcome at the Mongla port by the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Pranay Verma and Bangladesh state minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on February 4. Currently, the cruise members are in the Sundarban area of Bangladesh.
On the 29th day of their 51-day long river cruise, the tourists on board Ganga Vilas explored the narrow creeks and canals of Harbaria in the Sundarbans area today on rowing boats amid the huge variety of wildlife and Sundarban flora.
They left Harbaria later in the morning today. They are scheduled to arrive at Morleganj in the evening today.
Early tomorrow morning, the tourists will depart for Barisal on this incredible journey on the river cruise covering some of the most historic and heritage sites of Bangladesh.
The cruise members of Ganga Vilas were immersed in the spellbinding natural beauty of the Sundarbans in Bangladesh on 27th and 28th day of their journey on February 5 and 6.
Earlier, on their arrival at Mongla on Saturday, February 4, the tourists were given a rousing welcome.
On Sunday, the tourists onboard Ganga Vilas sailed for the entire day from Mongla to reach the Kotka forest station with rich and mesmerising flora and fauna inside the Sundarbans. The tourists enjoyed the scenic Kotka forest and Jamtola beach on Monday. They arrived at Harbaria on Monday evening.
The river cruise covering 3200 kilometres through India and Bangladesh is being hailed as a landmark event that will help in realising the potential of tourism, open up new ways of connecting the people and strengthen the historically strong ties of friendship between India and Bangladesh.
