Uttar Pradesh government has decided to form a dedicated Commission for providing reservations to the other backward casts on the basis of a triple test for urban local body elections. The decision was taken by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in wake of the verdict of the High court regarding urban local body elections. Today, the Lucknow bench of the High Court quashed OBC reservation in urban local body elections and said, all seats, reserved for OBCs, will be considered general. High Court also gave instructions to conduct the elections immediately. The Court said, a dedicated Commission should be formed to give reservations to OBCs only then OBC reservations should be given.

In an Order, a Bench of Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Saurabh Lavania said, until the “triple test/conditions” mandated by the Supreme Court is completed in all respects by the State government, no reservation for the Backward Class of citizens shall be provided. After the Court’s decision State government decided to form the Commission.
