Britain’s King Charles III is in Edinburgh where Queen Elizabeth II is lying at rest at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Thousands of people are waiting on the Royal Mile to watch as he and other royals join a procession behind her coffin.

It will be taken to St Giles’ Cathedral, where a service of remembrance will be held before mourners are allowed to pay their respects. Earlier, King Charles made his first address as monarch to MPs and peers in Parliament.

During the speech, King Charles spoke about his darling late mother and pledged that he would follow her in upholding the precious principles of constitutional governance. Charles said he cannot help but feel the weight of history which surrounds them and reminds them of the vital Parliamentary traditions, to which MPs and peers dedicate themselves.

A national minute’s silence will be held on Sunday, the night before the Queen’s funeral in Westminster Abbey.
