Ukraine has rejected a Russian demand to give up the city of Mariupol by Monday. Ukrainian officials rejected the Russian proposal for safe passage out of Mariupol even before Moscow’s 5 a.m. deadline for a response came and went.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk told news agency that there can be no talk of any surrender, laying down of arms. He said Ukraine have already informed the Russian side about this. Ukraine’s President accuses Russia of war crimes in Mariupol, where heavy fighting has now reached the city centre. About 300,000 people are reported trapped without power or water, and little food.
