The citizens of Gwadar in Pakistan have intensified their protests against fishing by illegal Chinese trawlers in the port area. The peaceful sit-in protest under the banner of the “Gwadar Ko Haq Do” Movement has now been expanded as ” Balochistan ko Haq do”. The protests began on November 15. Thousands of people marched from Gwadar’s Syed Hashumi Chowk to the Gwadar Port, while caravans from different parts of the district Gwadar, including Makran, joined the sit-in. In addition, Civil Society Kech Turbat, and All Parties Kech also joined hands.
The Head of the movement, Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch, has said that the sit-in protests would continue till their demands are met. He has sought a complete ban on illegal Chinese trawlers fishing in Gwadar. The protestors have demanded that the missing persons should be released, restrictions on Pakistan-Iran border trade should be lifted and all unnecessary check posts in the name of security should be abolished. Maulana Hidayat -ur-Rahman Baloch lamented that despite the one month deadline, the Government has not responded to their demands and hence the protests will continue.
