Polling for the second phase of District Development Council in Jammu and Kashmir has concluded. Voting took place in 43 DDC constituencies in this phase. Of this, 25 are in Kashmir valley and 18 in Jammu division. More than 7 lakh 90 thousand voters were eligible to cast their votes to decide the fate of 321 candidates. Bypolls to 83 vacant Sarpanch seats and 331 panch seats were held alongwith DDC polls.
Overall, 23.67 per cent voters have cast their votes upto 11AM. As per the figures given by the office of State Election Commissioner, in Kashmir Division, Kupwara has recorded voting percentage of 16% while Srinagar recorded 18.26%, and in Jammu division, Kishtwar has recorded voting percentage of 28.47% and Doda 35.86%.
The first phase of 8-phased DDC election in the UT saw 52% voter turnout on Saturday. It may be mentioned that DDC election is the first ever electoral process post nullifying of Article 370 and reorganization of the State into two Union Territories.
